Seacoast Worship Recap (05/22/10)

Even though I normally attend church on Saturday night, this worship re-cap is part of the Sunday Setlist Blog Carnival going on over atTheWorshipCommunity.com.  Check out the other worship service re-caps from this week by clicking here.

This week at Seacoast Church, we had the privilege of having Carlos Whittaker lead worship for us.  It was great, and quite honestly, surprising.  For the 5% of you out there who don’t know about Carlos (aka Los, aka Ragamuffinsoul, aka @loswhit), he is a worship leader/blogger that has recently gotten a lot of national exposure through this (LA Ink episode) and this (Youtube video).

I say it was surprising, not because I didn’t expect it to be good.  What I mean by that is I expected Carlos to be promoting his new album and sharing some about the direction his ministry is going.  I guess I expected worship to be a mini-concert of sorts.  Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not even saying that would have been a bad thing.  God is doing amazing things through Carlos, his family and their ministry, and more people need to know about it.  What we got however, was so much better.  An anointed dude, simply worshiping God and begging us to come along with him, with zero self promotion (out of a 5-song set, he only did two of his own songs).  So, if you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and check out his blog, follow him on twitter & buy his new album.  You can thank me later.

This weekend, Pastor Josh continued a series entitled “Liberated”, based on Acts 26-28.  Tonight, Josh talked about preparing your boat for “The Storm”.  It was a very timely message, for me anyway.  If you’re interested, you can get the sermon notes on YouVersion.com here.  Also, you can download the audio message from iTunes here or watch the video here (it may be Monday or Tuesday before it is available).

Worship/Response:

Well, that’s how things went at Seacoast Church this weekend.  How was your worship service?

Oh, and one more thing.  I’m giving away a free copy of Andy Andrews’ new book “The Heart Mender” this Wednesday, here on my blog.  If you’re interested, click here to find out how to enter the drawing.

This weekend, Pastor Greg continued the series entitled “Why Aren’t You Dead Yet?” (inspired by a blog post by Michael Hyatt, CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishing).  This was a very challenging message on stewardship.  If you’re interested, you can get the notes from YouVersion.com here, or you can download the message from iTunes here (it may be Monday or Tuesday before it is available).

Pastor Greg also anounced the results of our Hope Epidemic drive that ended around Christmas.  Through this drive we raised over $280,000 dollars!  This money will be used to meet significant needs in communities around the world in need of clean drinking water.  In fact, some of the results of this drive are already on the ground in Hati, providing relief there.  You can still give toward this here if you’re interested.

This week, we are visiting friends in Greenville, NC.  As a result I’m attending Seacoast Online.  I had a bit of problems with my internet connection so I caught the first half of the 9:30 service, and the last half of the 11:15 service.  I think they were having some issues with the live feed because the closing set was the same as last week(?).  Nonetheless, I was blessed!

Call to Worship / Opening Set:

  1. Let God Arise – Tomlin
  2. You Lifted Me Out – Tomlin (New Song)

This weekend, was week 5 of the “Road Trip” series.  Today Pastor Greg spoke about “How’s Your Heart”.  Is it hard or soft? It was a great message.
